Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design
The Butz Family of Companies has embraced the U.S. Green Building Council's quest to transform the way buildings are designed, built and operated, enabling an environmentally and socially responsible, healthy and prosperous environment that improves the quality of life. We have taken a proactive position in the pursuit of Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) training, development and implementation. We currently have 18 LEED Accredited Professionals on our staff with additional staff currently in training and accreditation programs. We are an innovator in the LEED process having developed in-house sustainable design and construction tools and processes.
ENR magazine ranked Butz Enterprises, Inc. 23rd among the top 40 green contractors in the region. The ranking is based on information provided by regional firms through the magazine’s annual Top Contractors survey. The list ranks firms based upon their 2009 revenue generated from projects that are certified with a third-party rating organization.

LEED PLATINUM Berks County Community Foundation New Community Service Center
This project includes a 5,000 gallon cistern that collects rainwater for flush toilets, energy-efficient light fixtures, radiant heating and cooling and a green roof. Water-saving plumbing fixtures were installed and regional recycled content and reclaimed building materials were used.
LEED GOLD Pennsylvania Real Estate Investment Trust (PREIT) 801 Market Street
 The renovation/adaptive reuse of this historic structure provides 3 floors of offices, 3-1/2 floors of shell retail and new building systems. Key green features include use of approximately 70% wood consumption from sustainable forestry sources approved by the Forest Stewardship Council, reuse of historic building elements and installation of high-efficiency mechanical systems.
Lehigh University S.T.E.P.S. Building
The new center features green lighting fixtures, Energy Star membranes and an 8,000 sf vegetated roof. Sustainable materials and materials with recycled content were used. The domestic water usage and the sewer flow rate is 20% less and 24% less, respectively, than the current LEED standard.
Philadelphia Housing Authority (PHA) Norris Apartments
This project represents PHA's first ever LEED development, achieving LEED Gold on 4 of the buildings. LEED Criteria used in this project includes Energy Star qualified windows, appliances and equipment, low flow plumbing fixtures and renewable and recycled materials.
Geisinger Health Systems Gray's Woods Ambulatory Care Facility
This new 2-story, multi-specialty clinic features a high-efficiency heating and cooling system, efficent plumbing fixtures, and a lighting control system that dims when natural daylight is available and occupancy sensors. Recycled and locally obtained materials were used in construction.
