Greg L. Butz

Greg Butz, a native of Allentown, Pennsylvania, graduated from Lehigh University in 1979 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering. In 1981, he obtained an M.B.A. from Lehigh.

His career in the construction industry began during his high school days in his grandfather's construction management firm, Alvin H. Butz, Inc. He has been employed at the firm as a construction laborer, assistant field superintendent, project manager, senior project manager, and vice president.

In 1995, Greg succeeded his father, Lee Butz, as President of the firm when Lee assumed the role of Chief Executive Officer. Greg is the third President in the company's history, following in the footsteps of his father and his grandfather, Alvin H. Butz.  Greg was named President and CEO of Alvin H. Butz, Inc. in December 2007 when Lee Butz assumed the title of Chairman of the Board.

Construction has been a Butz family tradition for five generations, from the time Greg's great, great grandfather designed and built many of the Lehigh Valley's covered bridges until now.

Lee Butz, a native of Allentown, Pennsylvania, graduated from Lehigh University in 1955 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering. Serving in the U.S. Army from 1955 until 1957, he trained with the 101st Airborne Division and was later stationed at Ft. Knox, Kentucky. He is a registered professional engineer and holds an Honorary Doctor of Engineering degree from Lehigh University. He also holds an Honorary Doctor of Humanities Degree from Muhlenberg College.

His career in the construction industry began during his high school days in his father's general contracting firm, Alvin H. Butz, Inc. Since then, he has served the firm as a field superintendent, project manager, and in financial and marketing roles. In 1973, he became president of Alvin H. Butz, Inc. In November, 1995, he assumed the role of chief executive officer after naming his son Greg president of the company.  Lee assumed the title of Chairman of the Board upon appointing Greg Butz President and CEO in December 2007. 

Lee Butz introduced the construction management concept to the Lehigh Valley in 1973. Since that time, the firm has been consistently ranked among the nation's largest 100 CM firms, according to ENR, McGraw-Hill's construction industry weekly magazine.
