Alvin H. Butz, Inc. Completes Synthetic Turf Field for Parkland School District
Allentown, PA, March 22, 2016 . . . Alvin H. Butz, Inc., part of The Butz Family of Companies, recently completed a conversion of Parkland High School's sports field from natural to synthetic turf.
The original field, which was used for soccer, field hockey and lacrosse, was completed in 1999. Due to years of extensive use and high traffic, damage and deterioration of the grass created high maintenance for staff and potential unsafe surfaces for students.
"The main goal in switching to an all-weather field was to maximize the total days the field can be used as well as create a safer environment for our student athletes," said Richard Sniscak, Superintendent of Parkland School District. "The Butz project team saw to it that our goal was successfully met with quality results."
Architerra, PC. provided expert design services on the project. Its extensive turf field experience and knowledge resulted in the best product selection for Parkland sports teams utilizing the field. Civil design services were completed by Cowan and Associates.
The field was replaced with a Sprinturf Ultrablade DF Elite dual-yarn synthetic turf. The dual fiber technology interlocks to eliminate infill flyout, enhance performance, durability and provide natural grass aesthetics. A coated, crumb, rubber infill was used, which is more eco-friendly and attractive than standard infill products.
Additional scope of the project included:
"We are pleased to have completed another important project for the Parkland School District. It has been a valued client for more than 23 years," said Greg L. Butz, President and CEO of Alvin H. Butz, Inc. "We look forward to continuing our successful working relationship on future projects."
- Modifications at the high jump and shot put areas
- Water and electrical connections installed at the sideline areas
- New curb and trench drain on edge of existing track
- Storm water management incorporated beneath the field
- Ball control netting installed at both ends of the field
- Planning for future construction of a new ticket booth, team rooms and elevated scorers table
Butz also recently completed renovations and upgrades to Kratzer Elementary School and has been selected as construction manager for Parkland School District's Phase Five Expansion Plan.
