Alvin H. Butz, Inc. Begins Renovations for Lehighton Fire Station

Allentown, PA, July 17, 2013 . . . Alvin H. Butz, Inc. recently began construction on an expansion and renovations to the Lehighton Fire Station in Lehighton, PA. The project, which primarily features a two-story addition to the existing fire station, was initiated in order to support improved fire response in a growing community.

Lehighton Borough Council and the Lehighton Fire Department have spent many years planning for a new fire station. After careful consideration by the building committee of the Fire Department, the current fire station location was chosen as it provides the most efficient response to a high fire load area downtown and has direct access to main thoroughfares.

The project is progressing under the direction of Borough Manager Nicole Beckett and Fire Department Chairperson Steve Ebbert. With grants from the Pennsylvania Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program and the Local Share Gaming Funds, the project has become a reality.

"We are happy to be working with Alvin H. Butz, Inc.'s experienced project team members on these renovations," says Beckett. "When completed, the new fire station will provide an efficient and updated facility by rehabilitating two older fire stations that are located within the same block."

Thanks to these renovations, firefighters will enjoy a safer working environment as well as new classrooms for training and a shower area. Currently there is no area for volunteer firefighters to shower or change into clean clothes after responding to a fire. With all apparatus housed in a common area, response time will be greatly improved.

Features of the 14,000 sq. ft. expansion include:

  • Five new truck bays
  • Self-ontained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) equipment room
  • Locker room
  • Kitchen, dining/day room
  • Meeting room and offices
  • Dispatch room
  • Ready room
  • Training room
  • Laundry area
  • Elevator
In addition to these features, renovations will include overall modernization of the existing facility as well as computer equipment upgrades and relocation.

"Butz is excited to be a part of this important project which will improve the borough's overall safety and well-being," says Greg L. Butz, President and CEO of Alvin H. Butz, Inc. "Our project team will work closely with the Borough of Lehighton and the Fire Department to ensure that this addition and renovation meets all of the department's needs."

The project will be phased to ensure that the existing fire station bays will remain operational during construction.

Completion of the addition and renovations is expected to occur in November 2013.
